PURPOSE: To control the final air-fuel ratio of mixture supplied to a combustion chamber at an optimal value, by controlling the quantities of air and fuel supplied to an intake system in relation to the quantity of produced fuel gas during the while when vaporized fuel gas in an adsorbent-incorporating container is released to the intake system.
CONSTITUTION: Output signals of a fuel level gauge 34, a temperature sensor 33, etc. attached to a fuel tank 27 are afforded to an electronic control unit 35. From these output signals, the control unit 35 controls a main air-bleed control valve 18, a slow air-bleed control valve 19, and a solenoid valve 29 provided in a purge passage 24 connecting a charcoal canister 22 to an intake branch pipe 6. At the time of high-load operation when the solenoid valve 29 is opened, the electronic control unit 35 functions to increase the openings of the main air- bleed control valve 18 and the slow air-bleed control valve 19 according to the quantity of produced fuel gas calculated from the fuel level and the fuel temperature, whereby it is enabled to reduce the fuel supply rate and to prevent air- fuel mixture from becoming too rich.
