To provide a method for forming an alcohol by which organic sludge which has conventionally been subjected to landfill disposal/incineration disposal is effectively utilized as a raw material of the alcohol.
The method for forming the alcohol includes forming the alcohol from the organic sludge containing microorganisms. Concretely, the sludge is fed forcefully by a forcefully feeding device to a filter press while degassing a gas component contained in the sludge, and the sludge delivered from the forcefully feeding device is pressurized and dehydrated by the filter press. In the pressurizing and dehydrating step, the cell walls of microorganism cells contained in the sludge are crushed by the pressure from the forcefully feeding device to form the cytoplasm into an elutable state. The dehydrated cake obtained by the filter press is pulverized and thereafter subjected to sterilization. The cytoplasm component contained in the sterilized, pulverized and dehydrated product is saccharified by using Aspergillus oryzae, and further subjected to alcohol fermentation by using an yeast. As a result, the alcohol is formed out of the sludge.
