To obtain the subject new compound wherein the number of carbon atoms is increased so as to raise the glass-transition temperature of polyester.
This compound is shown by the formula (R1 and R2 are each an 1-10C alkyl; R3 is H or a 1-10C alkyl; and ring X is a cycloalkyl), e.g. tetracyclo[4.4.02,5.17,10]tridecane-3,4-dicarboxylic acid dimethyl. The compound of the formula is obtained by reducing tetracyclo[4.4.02,5.17,10]tridece-3,4- dicarboxylic acid dialkyl derivative under a hydrogen pressure of atmospheric pressure to 30 kg/cm2 at 10 to 100°C by using e.g. catalyst (palladium-carbon, ruthenium-carbon, etc.), supported on carriers of 5% metal carrying catalyst at a ratio of 0.5 to 20 wt.% based on the substrate and an alcohol such as methanol, ethanol, or propanol as a solvent at 3 to 10 times the weight of the material.
