Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the alignment stability of a liquid crystal domain to increase reliability and to enable a highly accurate picture display by shifting mutually rubbing directions at different liquid crystal orientation areas on a substrate.
SOLUTION: A liquid crystal alignment treating direction for an array substrate 100 of a picture element electrode 101 side differs each other between liquid crystal alignment areas. That is, the liquid crystal orientation treating direction (rubbing direction) B of back side liquid crystal alignment area 106 in figure is intersected reversely to each other at 1-10 angular degree with respect to the liquid crystal alignment treating direction (rubbing direction) A of this side liquid crystal alignment area 106 in the figure out of two liquid crystal alignment areas 106 in one display picture element 104. Also the rubbing treatment is applied on an opposite substrate 108 so that a twist angle of the liquid crystal between the array substrate 100 and the opposite substrate 108 may be about 90 degree. The rubbing direction at this time are expressed by arrows C and D. In this way, the alignment property of the liquid crystal is improved and the device good in reliability and highly accurate display is obtained.
