Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkali metal-sulfur secondary battery having a long life by inhibiting a side reaction during charge to improve the charge efficiency and inhibiting reduction in service capacity caused by repeated cycles of charge and discharge.SOLUTION: An alkali metal-sulfur secondary battery 50 comprises a positive electrode or a negative electrode 2 having a sulfur-containing electrode active material; an electrolyte containing a glyme represented by the formula and an alkali metal salt, wherein R is an alkyl group which has a carbon number of 1 to 9 and may be partly substituted by fluorine, a phenyl group which may be partly substituted by a halogen atom, or a cyclohexyl group which may be partly substituted by a halogen atom, and x is in the range of 1 to 6; and a counter electrode (a negative electrode or a positive electrode) 4 containing an alkali metal or carbon. A component 6 is a separator, a component 12 is a spacer, a component 14 is a spring, and a component 20 is a coin-type battery case.
