Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the processed bagasse which is made flexible and suitable for production of fermented bagasse feed with almost no loss of cellulose and hemicellulose by treating water-containing bagasse with an alkali such as calcium oxide (and sodium hydroxide).
CONSTITUTION: Bagasse which is excluded from sugar manufactories and has about 40 to 50% water content is, directly as it is, or after adjustment in its water content to about 40 to 90%, preferably 45 to 80%, treated with calcium oxide (and sodium hydroxide). As the alkali treatment can be done in a short time and the pH of the bagasse becomes low relatively rapidly, the seed of lactobacillus can be inoculated without neutralization with an acid.
