Abstract:

To provide a cathode additive for an alkaline battery capable of sufficiently performing discharge performance, while restraining internal short circuiting of the alkaline battery.

A cathode mixture 12 of the alkaline battery is manufactured by grading of cathode mixture powder 31 with electrolytic manganese dioxide, graphite, potassium hydroxide and a binder mixed together, and then adding an additive 32 to press mold it into a cylindrical shape. The additive 32 contained in the cathode mixture 12 consists of particles 35 of silicon dioxide (SiO2), having a conductive carbon film 34 on its surface.
