NEW MATERIAL:A polyoxyethylene alkyl ether sulfate derived from a 11C oxoalcohol being 5 - 150ppm in carbonyl value.
USE: A detergent good in foaming power and detergency with little offensive odor, mild to the skin, improved in the offensive odor of alkyl ether sulfates useful as tableware detergents and the chief components for shampoos.
PREPARATION: A polyoxyethylene alkyl ether pref. 1 - 4 in the average number of added moles for ethylene oxide in the polyoxyethylene chain, prepared by adding ethylene oxide to a 11C oxoalcohol being 5 - 150ppm in carbonyl value is sulfonated with pref. gaseous sulfur trioxide or chlorosulfonic acid, thus obtaining the objective polyoxyethylene alkyl ether sulfate (esp. sodium, potassium, triethanolamine salt).
