Abstract:
A process for the preparation of an alkylated aromatic amine, liquid at room temperature and atmospheric pressure, preferably alkylated diphenylamine, which comprises alkylating the aromatic amine with a polyisobutylene in the presence of a suitable alkylation catalyst, preferably a clay catalyst, wherein the polyisobutylene has an average molecular weight in the range of 120 to 600, contains at least 25% methylvinylidene isomer and wherein the mole ratio of said polyisobutylene to said aromatic amine is in the range of 1.0:1.0 to 4.0:1.0.
