Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL: A compd. of formula I [wherein Y is an alkylene, alkenylene, alkynylene, O, S(O)m (in which m is 0 to 2), N, oxycarbonyl, azo, carbonylamino or the like; and Z is alkyl, an alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, arylalkyl, aryloxy, five-membered heterocycle or the like].
EXAMPLE: Methyl 2-(2'-cinnamoyloxymethylphenyl)acrylate.
USE: Germicides effective on Eumycetes which cause diseases of plants, particularly on ascomicetes, and basidiomycetes.
PROCESS: The compds. of formula I are obtd. each by acylating a phenylacetic ester of formula II which a dialkyl oxalate in the presence of a base and converting the obtd. 3-aryl-2-oxosuccinic ester of formula III into a compd. of formula I.
