A supply posture altering device for a carbon rod (rod member) C is equipped with each pair of driven pulleys 16 and of driving pulleys 18 which are separated in the supply direction of the carbon rod C; a pair of timing belts 26 which are wound about a set of the driven pulley 16 and of the driving pulley 18 and twisted as much as 90° to prescribe a sandwichedly transfering passage for the carbon rod C; and a torque motor 34 and gear trains 32, 38 for simultaneously traveling these timing belts 26.
