Abstract:

To provide an alumina composite separation membrane enhanced in the separation capacity of mixed gas and a liquid and excellent in heat resistance, water resistance, acid resistance and alkali resistance.

The alumina composite separation membrane useful for liquid separation and gas separation is manufactured by coating a porous inorganic support with aqueous sol containing fibrous alumina particles with an average aspect ratio of 30-5,000, drying the formed coating film at 5-100°C to form an alumina hydrate sol coating layer wherein the fibrous alumina particles are parallelly arranged in one direction and superposed one upon another and applying heat treatment of 130-1,000°C to the alumina hydrate sol coating layer to form a fibrous alumina porous membrane layer wherein mutually communicating pores having a specific shape are formed between the fibrous alumina particles.
