Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the wear resistance of the contact surface of a tappet body with a cam by fixing a cam receiving plate formed of a light alloy as matrix and a reinforcing fiber or whisker contained therein on the cuter surface of the top wall of a topped cylindrical tappet body formed of an aluminum alloy. SOLUTION: A tappet body 4 having an upper surface blocked by a top wall 4a is formed of an aluminum alloy, and a cam receiving plate 5 consisting of a fiber-reinforced composite metal material formed of a light alloy such as magnesium alloy as matrix and a fiber or whisker contained therein is integrally fixed to the outer surface of the top wall 4a by pressure welding or welding. Such a tappet is manufactured by inserting the cam receiving plate 5 and a material of the aluminum alloy one over another into a molding chamber between a die in a pressing device and a punch inserted therein, plastically deforming the material to mold the tappet body 4, and fixing the cam receiving plate 5 to the outer surface of the top wall 4a.
