Title:
ALUMINUM ALLOY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6393839
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To manufacture an active Al alloy for hydrogen formation, etc., by incorporating specific amounts of In and Zn to Al and by carrying out casting at a specific cooling velocity.

CONSTITUTION: An alloy consisting of, by weight, about 0.05W2% In, about 0.1W5% Zn, and the balance Al is cast at a cooling rate of ≥1°C/sec so as to be formed into an Al alloy. This Al alloy is remarkably electrochemically base and is chemically active, so that it reacts with water to form H2 gas efficiently. In this Al alloy, the activating effect is reduced when the additive quantity of In is by far less than 0.5% and, when it exceeds 2% to a great extent, problems occur at the time of casting and heat treatment and the activating effect is not remarkably improved in proportion to the increase in the additive quantity. Zn produces activating effect to a greater extent by synergistic effect with In and, in order to make this synergistic effect more marked, an additive quantity of ≥0.1% is required, but, even if it exceeds 5%, the effect by the addition is not remarkably improved proportionately with the increase in the additive quantity, though the degree of activation is not reduced.
