To provide an aluminum pigment composition for water-base materials whose metallic unevenness is improved and color tone and appearance can be attained to the same extent as an organic solvent-based coating material by enhancing thixotropy of the water-base coating material to enhance orientation of an aluminum pigment after application.
The aluminum pigment composition for water-base coating materials which comprises an aluminum pigment, a rheology modifier, and an organic solvent, is characterized in that the organic solvent has a solubility parameter of 6 to 12 and exhibits solubility of 30 mass% or below in water at 20C, and that when the rheology modifier is added to a resin emulsion and the obtained mixture is subjected to viscosity determination with a Brookfield type viscometer, both viscosity B60 at a number of revolutions of 60 and viscosity B6 at a number of revolutions of 6 fall within the range of 0.3 to 30 Pa s and the B6/B60 ratio, namely, thixotropic index is 1 to 60.
