PURPOSE: To prepare functionalized polymers each having a narrow mol.wt. distribution and reduced hysteresis and being useful for preparing a vulcanizable elastomer compd. by using a particular initiator.
CONSTITUTION: Each of the above polymers comprises a polymer chain having at least one functional group selected from alkyl, dialkyl, and cycloalkylamino groups represented by formula I (wherein R1 represents a 1-12C alkyl, cycloalkyl, or aralkyl) and cyclic amino groups represented by formula II (wherein R2 represents an (substd.) alkylene having a 3-16C methylene group, oxy, or an N-alkylamino-alkylene). This polymer is prepd. by polymerizing an anionically polymerizable monomer in the presence of an anionic polymn. initiator soluble in an acyclic alkane solvent represented by the formula (A)Li(SOL)y (wherein y is about 1 to 3; SOL represents a hydrocarbon, an ether, or an amine; and A represents a group of the formula I or II).
