PURPOSE: To obtain an amino acid pharmaceutical, consisting of a specific amino acid composition and capable of promoting metabolism of ammonia and then exhibiting excellent effects on reduction in blood level thereof and remedial effects on patients suffering from hepatic insufficiency, especially serious cases accompanied with hepatic encephalopathy.
CONSTITUTION: An amino acid pharmaceutical for patients suffering from hepatic insufficiency having the amino acid composition indicated in the table with relatively high contents of arginine, isoleucine, leucine and valine participating in ammonia metabolism as compared with the composition of an ordinary amino acid pharmaceutical for supplying nutriments and, on the other hand, relatively low contents of threonine which is a glycogenic amino acid readily generating ammonia and further lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, tryptophan, etc.
