To obtain the subject new compound having a high herbicidal activity on various kinds of weeds, low in toxicity to agriculturally useful crops, thus useful as a selective herbicide.
This new compound is an aminosulfonylurea of formula I [R is H, a halogen, 18C (halo)alkyl, etc.; R1 and R2 are each H, a 1-4C (branched) (halo)alkyl, 3-6C (branched) (halo)alkoxyalkyl, etc.; R3 and R4 are each H, a halogen, 1-6C(branched) (halo)alkyl, etc.; R5 is H, a halogen, 1-4C (branched) (halo)alkyl, etc.; Z is N or CH-], e.g. N-[2-(3,3,3-trifluoropropynyl)phenyl]- aminosulfonyl-N'-(4-methoxy-6-methy1-1,3,5-triazin-2-ylurea. The compound of formula I is obtained by reaction of a compound of formula II with a compound of the formula XSO2NCO (X is a halogen) in an inert organic solvent to produce a halosulfamoylurea which is then reacted with a compound of formula III.
