In an ammonia removal device and a method for an absorption water cooling and heating machine or an absorption refrigerating machine, ammonia is removed from a refrigerant 5 of the absorption water cooling and heating machine or the absorption refrigerating machine 2 including an evaporator 3, a condenser 4, the refrigerant 5, a refrigerant pump 6, a dispersing path 7, and a refrigerant path 8. In the ammonia removal device and method, the refrigerant 5 is extracted from the condenser 4 or the refrigerant path 8, and passed through the inside of a container 13 in which atmospheric pressure is decreased lower than that in the absorption water cooling and heating machine or the absorption refrigerating machine 2, thereby removing the ammonia from the refrigerant 5 by the use of heat of the refrigerant 5 generated by the condenser 4.
