The amount-of-rainfall predicting device is provided with a rainfall intensity distribution computing means 11, which finds the rainfall intensity distribution in an area 11, from rainfall intensity data from radar rain gauges 1 and 2 and rainfall data from a ground rain gauge 5, a moving speed predicting system 12, which predicts the future moving speed of a rain fall based on the past and present moving speeds of the rainfall obtained from the past and present rainfall intensity distributions calculated by the computing means 11, a rainfall distribution characteristic amount computing means 13a, which calculates the characteristic amount of the rainfall from the past and present rainfall intensity distributions, a rainfall distribution characteristic amount predicting means 13b, which predicts the characteristic amount of the future rainfall intensity distribution form the past and present characteristic amounts obtained from the computing means 13a, and an amount-of-rainfall predicting means 14, which predicts the future amount of the rainfall from the past and present rainfall intensity distributions, predicted moving speed of the rainfall, and predicted characteristic amount.
