PURPOSE: An analgesic cholagogic agent containing 4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol as an active constituent.
CONSTITUTION: An analgesic cholagogic agent, containing 4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol expressed by the formula as an active constituent, and formulated into a dosage form of a solution, injection, powder, granule, tablet or capsule, with a solvent, carrier, diluent or assistant by the conventional method. The effective does of the compound expressed by the formula is 25W280mg once for intravenous injection and 100W900mg once for oral administration and suitably administered up to three times a day according to various symptoms. The compound expressed by the formula is obtained by reducing 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde with sodium amalgam under acidic conditions or extracting a plant of the family Orchidaceae, e.g. Gastrodia elata Blume.
