Abstract:
To hold visibility excellent by adjusting luminance according to ambient lightness and to eliminate the power consumption and feeling of unpleasantness resulting from the display of character information, even after the light is turned off and the sounding of a time-alarming chime when an analog timepiece with a character information display unit always displays character information.
A photodetector 6 is provided to detect the ambient lightness of the timepiece 1, and the luminance of the character information display unit 4 is adjusted according to the detected lightness. When the ambient lightness is less than a certain value, the character information display is turned off and the chime of time alarming is stopped.
