To provide an angle-of-rotation detector that can obtain high resolution and a stable discharge current.
The angle-of-rotation detector is provided with a discoid rotating electrode which rotates at the same angle of rotation as that of a rotating body 1 and has a plurality of slits 31, which are formed at regular intervals on concentric circles and have the same width, a needle-like fixed electrode 4, which is faced oppositely to the rotating electrode 3 with a gap in between, a power source 5 for discharge, which applies a voltage across the fixed electrode 4 and rotating electrode 3, and a discharge current detector 6 which detects the discharge current generated across the electrodes 4 and 3. The conductor sections of the rotating electrode 3 are formed to have a tooth-shaped cross section as a whole in circumferential direction. When the conductor sections are formed in the above-mentioned way, pulse-like signals having a large amplitude corresponding to the number of the conductor sections is obtained and the resolution of the detector is improved.
