R1 = CH3, phenyl, piperidino, 1-pyrrolidinyl, morpholino, 4-methyl-1-piperazinyl, C1-C4alkyl, C1-C4alkoxy, NH2, NHR min (R min =C1-C4alkyl, cycloalkyl, benzyl or phenyl) or NR sec R''' (R sec and R''' independently = C1-C4alkyl), R2 = H, C1-C4alkyl or phenyl, R3 = F, Cn, CHF2, CBrF2, CF3, CH3S, CH3SO2, NH2SO2, C1-C4alkoxy C2-C5alkanoyl or benzoyl, R4 = C1-C4 hydrocarbon group, R5 = H or CH3O, R6 = H, halogen, CH3 or CH3S, and R7 = H or CH3. The 8 alpha -ergoline derivatives I and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts have anorexigenic properties. Their preparation and compositions containing them are also described.
