PURPOSE: To obtain a new anthraquinone compound having a high melting point and capable of forming an inclusion compound of a wide range of guest compounds.
CONSTITUTION: This compound is an anthraquinone compound having a propargyl alcohol derivative group of formula I (Ar1 and Ar2 are each a monocyclic aryl, a polycyclic aryl or a heteroaryl), e.g. 1-(3-hydroxy-3,3- diphenyl-1-propynyl)anthraquinone of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting 1,1-diaryl-2-propyne-1-ol of formula III with an anthraquinone substituted with a bromine group in the presence of a palladium catalyst under heating. While this host compound is being heated, a guest organic compound is dissolved and subsequently they are cooled to obtain a crystalline inclusion compound. The guest organic compound is e.g. methanol, acetone, tetrahydrofuran, N,N-dimethylformamide or dimethyl sulfoxide.
