Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I {R is H, 1-7C (alkoxy-substituted) alkyl, 1-7C (alkoxy-substituted) alkoxy, 1-7C alkylthio, 1-7C alkyl-substituted phenyl, benzyl, phenoxy, phenylthio, benzyloxy, halogen or -N(R1)R2 [R1 and R2 are H, 1-7C (alkoxy-substituted) alkyl, phenyl or benzyl]; -N(R1)R2 may be piperidino or morpholino; X is O or S}.

USE: A dichroic red pigment having excellent dichroism and light-resistance.

PREPARATION: The objective compound can be produced by reaching 2,6(or 7)-dibromo-1,4,5,8-tetrahydroxyanthraquinone of formula II with a compound of formula III in the presence of an acid acceptor such as alkali metal hydroxide or alkali metal carbonate.
