USE: A coloring material for polymer, a material for liquid crystal composition, photosensitive material for electrophotographic printer, recording material for optical disc, an infrared cut filter, etc. It has an absorption peak at 700W900nm.

PREPARATION: An anthraquinone compound of formula III is made to react with excess bromine in nitrobenzene and the synthesized corresponding tetrabrominated compound of formula IV is reacted with potassium salt of 2-aminobenzenethiol of formula V in DMF.
