PURPOSE: To obtain an anti-Helicobacter pyrolii agent which has the anti- Helicobacter pyrolii action and is effective for therepy and prevention of digestive ulcers.

CONSTITUTION: This agent contains a hydroxybenzophenone derivative of the formula [ is -O-, -CO-, -S-, -NR8- (R8 is H, a lower alkyl, an acyl); R1-R7 are H, a halogen, OH, a lower alkyl, amino, carboxyl, aldehyde or acyl]. It can be used as a remedy for digestive ulcer, gastritis or hepatitis or a recurrence inhibitor for digestive ulcer, gastritis, hepatitis, gastric cancer and hepatic cancer. The dose is 0.1-3,000mg, preferably 1-1,000mg/day adult and is desirably given in 1 to 4 portions, preferably orally or may be intravenously injected. The compound of the formula is a known substance extracted from a plant in Rubiaceae, Polygonum hydropiper, buckthorn or Lagminosae.
