PURPOSE: To prepare an anti-idiotypic antibody that mimics tumor necrosis factor(TNF) activity and to provide a method for using the antibody.
CONSTITUTION: This anti-idiotypic antibody that bonds specifically to the TNF bonding site of a TNF receptor and mimics TNF activity is prepared by the following process. (a) TNF is injected in a mammal to generate an anti-TNF antibody having a TNF bonding site, (b) the anti-TNF antibody in the stage (a) is recovered, (c) the recovered antibody is used, and the other antibody to the TNF bonding site of the recovered antibody is generated, and (d) the other antibody in the stage (c) is recovered. The method of allowing the antibody to mimic the effect of TNF in which the antibody that bonds to a TNF receptor found in a mammal is administrated to a mammal is provided, and the administration is executed under conditions sufficient for attaining the prescribed result.
