To obtain an anti-inflammatory agent capable of preventing an inflammatory symptom without side effects such as lowering of infection protective function, defect of digestive tract, suppressing of pituitary adrenocortical function and lowering of osteogenesis by bringing blood contact with the anti- inflammatory agent obtained by immobilizing a microorganism.
This anti-inflammatory agent having a shape like a bead, a particle, a fiber, a hollow fiber, a membrane, etc., is obtained by immobilizing bacteria, protozoa, yeasts, fungi and basidiomycetes, especially preferably a microorganism belonging to gram-negative bacteria on a material such as an organic polymer material, glass and alumina. The anti-inflammatory agent is brought into contact with blood. A carrier 4 immobilizing the microorganism is housed in a bag-like vessel 2 connected to an inlet part of the blood component composed of a short cylinder body.
