Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an antimicrobial composition, containing an alkylguanidine as an active ingredient, capable of inhibiting the growth of microorganisms in various aqueous systems, etc., for industrial purposes and further having storage stability. SOLUTION: This antimicrobial composition contains an alkylguanidine represented by the formula (R is about 8-18C alkyl and about 40-60% of the alkyl has about 12 carbon atoms; X is H, a chloride, a bromide, a fluoride or an iodide). An antimicrobial composition storage stable at a lower temperature than about 5 deg.C is obtained by combining about 25-35 wt.% alkylguanidine represented by the formula with about 10-60 wt.% solvent and about 10-65 wt.% water. Dipropylene glycol is preferred as the solvent and a composition having a higher flash point than about 38 deg.C is prepared by using the dipropylene glycol. Thereby, the composition can safely be handled. The antimicrobial composition can be used in the form of, e.g. a liquid concentrate. In the case of usual use thereof, the composition is effective within the concentration range of 0.0025-0.1%.
