Title:
NA+/H+ ANTI-PORTER GENE, AND IMPROVEMENT OF BASE RESISTANCE BY EXPRESSION OF THE GENE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2003180373
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To find a useful gene capable of improving the base resistance of a plant by the technology of genetic industry, and to provide a method for using the gene to develop and create a base-resistant crop, thus contributing to the improvement of food production.

This DNA encoding a Na+/H+ anti-porter originated from base- resistant Aphanothece halopytica. The DNA encoding the Na+/H+ anti-porter originated from the Aphanothece halopytica is characterized by substantially not exhibiting a Li+/H+ anti-porter activity in the whole pH region but exhibiting Ca2+/H+ anti-porter activity in neutral and alkaline pH regions. And a DNA containing a base sequence encoding the following protein (a) or (b) or its partial sequence. (a) The protein comprising a specific amino acid sequence. (b) The protein comprising the amino acid sequence (a) wherein one or more amino acids are deleted, substituted or added, and having a Na+/H+ anti-porter activity.
