To obtain an antibacterial agent highly safe because of being derived from natural products, not damaging quality of the foods, and especially useful as a food-preserving agent, by adding an extract from specific plants, such as Abelmoschus moschatus Medik, regarded as folkloric medicines in Indonesia as an active ingredient.
This antibacterial agent contains an extract from one or more plants selected from Abelmoschus moschatus Medik, in the scientific name (Gondopuro, in Indonesian name; hereinafter expressed in the same manner), Abelmoschus moschatus Medik. (Regula), Arbus precatorius Linn (Daun sogo), Achyranthes aspera L. (Jarong), Adenostemma lavenia (L.) O.K. (Legetan warak), Alpinia (Lagnuas) galanga (L.) Swarts (Lenkuas kering), Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br. (Babakan pule), Artemisia cina Berg. (Mungsi arab), Artocarpus communis Forst. (Daun sukun), Baeckea frutescens Linn. (Jungrahab), etc., as an active ingredient. The antibacterial agent is preferably contained in an amount of 0.001-5 wt.% per weight of the product.
