To obtain a new compound having excellent antibacterial activities even against an acid-fast bacterium resistant to rifampicin, kanamycin or the like, and useful as an antibacterial agent.
This new compound is represented by the formula. The compound of the formula is obtained by culturing a microorganism belonging to the genus Nocardia, and capable of producing a compound of the formula, [e.g. Nocardia sp. MK-703-102F1 strain (FERM P-16580)] in a medium comprising a carbon source such as glycerol; a nitrogen source such as a corn steep liquor, and the like, preferably at 25-30°C, and collecting the compound of the formula from the cultured product. The compound of the formula has the following physicochemical properties: appearance: colorless powder; high resolution mass spectrometry (HRFAB MS: cation mode): experimental value: 456.3242 (M)+, and calculated value: 456.3240; specific rotation: [α]D25+85.4° (c 0.63, MeOH); solubility: soluble in methanol and acetone, and insoluble in water.
