Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an anticariogenic emulsion, comprising aluminum ions at a specific concentration, specified surfactants and water and having a specific pH range and a stable and comfortable taste. CONSTITUTION: This anticariogenic emulsion comprises 10-50,000ppm, preferably 250-2,000ppm aluminum ions (derived from a water-soluble salt such as potassium aluminum sulfate, aluminum chloride or sodium aluminum phosphate) reactive with teeth, water and nonionic surfactants composed of (A) a polyoxyethylene derivative of a sorbitan ester of a fatty acid, preferably a polyoxyethylene derivative of sorbitan monolaurate having 9-18 hydrophile-lipophile balance(HLB) and (B) a block copolymer of propylene oxide and ethylene oxide (preferably having 15-30HLB) at pH 2.5-5.0, preferably 3.5-3.9. The surfactants are used at 1:(2-200), preferably 1:(4-50) of the polyoxyethylene derivative of the sorbitan ester of the fatty acid A:block copolymer B. The content of the surfactant A is preferably 0.1-0.5wt.% and that of the surfactant B is preferably 0.1-20wt.%.
