PURPOSE: To obtain a chemically stable anticarious agent, containing glabridin as an active ingredient, having remarkable anticarious action in a small amount thereof with any taste, odor and side effects and capable of being freely blended in cosmetics, quasidrugs, foods, etc.
CONSTITUTION: An anticarious agent obtained by extracting the root part of Glycyrrhiza glabra var. glandulifera or an aqueous extraction residue thereof with an organic solvent having intermediate polarity, purifying the resultant extract and containing the obtained glabridin expressed by formula I and/or glabrene expressed by formula II as an active ingredient. In use, the aforementioned agent is employed in the form of a solution, solid agent, etc., or may be used by blending in a dentifrice, mouthwash, etc. For example, the adequate amount thereof blended in the dentifrice is about 1-100ppm expressed in terms of the above-mentioned active ingredient. The glabridin and grabrene which are the active ingredient is obtained by extracting the root part or the aqueous extraction residue with the organic solvent having intermediate polarity and purifying the prepared extract.
