PURPOSE: To provide an antifouling paint which can retain an antifouling effect over a long period of time, by using a resin compsn. obtd. by homogeneously dispersing degradable vinyl resin particles having a crosslinking point having a metal-ester bond in a film-forming resin varnish as a vehicle.

CONSTITUTION: 5W100wt% polymerizable monomer (A) of formula I or II (wherein R2 is H or methyl; X is a member selected from among the groups of formulas III, IV, etc.; R1 is a 1W10C hydrocarbon; 2≤m≤P; n=p-m; p is the valence of a vibalent or polyvalent metal M) is mixed with 95W0wt% polymerizable monomer (B) having an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated bond. The mixture is polymerized by, e.g., emulsion polymn. to obtain degradable vinyl resin particles having an average particle size of 0.01W250μ and a crosslinking point having a metal-ester bond. A film-forming resin varnish is mixed with said resin particles in a weight ratio of 99/1W30/70 on a solid basis. The resulting resin compsn. is used as a vehicle to prepare an antifouling paint.
