Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL: A compound of formula I [wherein the symbol CYCLE together with the C atoms bonded to the semicircle is a four- or seven-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring having an ethylenic or aromatic unsaturation between the two C atoms; Y is O or S; and Z is NR1R2 (wherein R1 and R2 are each a lower alkyl, a lower alkoxyl, a 3-7C cycloalkyl or the like); and R3 to R5 are each H, a halogen, amino or the like].

EXAMPLE: 2-(4-Morpholinocarbonyl)-5-iodo-3-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)benzothiophene.

USE: An antifungal agent or an intermediate thereof.

PREPARATION: A benzophenone of formula II [wherein R13 to R15 are the same as R3 to R5; R16 to R19 are each the same as R6 (R6 is H, a halogen, cyano or the like); and A1 is a halogen or nitro] is reacted with a compound of formula III [wherein K10 is O, oxo or the like; and Z1 is NR11R12 (wherein R11 and R12 are the same as R1 and R2) to obtain a compound such as of formula IV.
