Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject resin comprising a vinylic copolymer having phosphate ester quaternary ammonium salt groups and OH groups, excellent in washing resistance, having an antimicrobial property, and capable of safely and easily imparting the antimicrobial property to fiber materials.
CONSTITUTION: This resin comprises a vinylic polymer having monovalent or divalent phosphate ester quaternary ammonium chloride groups and hydroxyl groups, such as a polymer of formula I (P is the main chain of the polymer; R', R" are organic groups, respectively; R1 is an 8-18C alkyl, a substituted aryl; R2 is a 1-18C alkyl, phenyl, etc.). The resin is produced by reacting a polymerizable vinylic monomer having monovalent or divalent phosphate ester groups (e.g. a phosphate ester monomer of formula II) with a tertiary amine (e.g. N,N-dimethyllaurylamine), copolymerizing the produced amine salt with an OH group-containing vinylic monomer and another copolymerizable vinylic monomer, and finally converting the phophate ester groups of the copolymer into quaternary ammonium groups with a monovalent glycidyl compound.
