Title:
ANTIMICROBIAL TALC COMPOSITION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH05112415
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide an antimicrobial talc composition capable of being safely used for a long period because the dissolution of fixed antimicrobial metal ions in water is little, and giving resin molded products having an uniformly and highly antimicrobial ability because of not discoloring and of having good dispersibility in resins.

CONSTITUTION: Antimicrobial metal ions, preferably the ions of at least one metal selected from silver. copper, zinc, tin, lead, arsenic and cobalt, are fixed on safe tale having widely been used as an additive for medicines, cosmetics or foods, or as a filter for resins in an amount of 0.001-15wt.% based on the talk by the adsorption of the ions or by the ion exchange to obtain an antimicrobial talc composition having the above-mentioned activities. Since the talc contains usually water, the tale requires to be dried as a pre-treatment, when added into polyester fibers, etc. But when the composition is further calcined at ≥870°C, the composition does not require the pre-treatment. Thus, the antimicrobial talc composition in which the metal ions are carried on the anhydrous tale is obtained and can easily be added to materials which must be maintained in the water-free state.
