To provide an ultraviolet up-conversion composition allowing effective treatment of microorganisms in the surface, water, and air by absorbing visible light or infrared light in/outside of a room, and to provide an article, a method for inhibiting microorganisms etc., using the composition.
The antimicrobial ultraviolet up-conversion composition includes an activator allowing absorption of visible light or infrared light and emission of electromagnetic waves having a wavelength in the ultraviolet region through the up-conversion, and a host substance. The antimicrobial ultraviolet up-conversion composition in which the activator is doped in the host substance is used to inactivate the microorganisms or inhibit the growth of the microorganisms. Thus, the microbiological stability in the water, air, and surface can be enhanced.
