Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the subject medicine high in water-holding ability, having such antipruritic activity as to cure atopic dermatitis and senile dermal pruritus etc., also causing no side effects, containing, as active ingredient, an extract free from the alcohol solubles of Artemisia capillaris.
CONSTITUTION: Dried juvenile stems and leaves of Artemisia capillaris are finely chopped, and water is added to the chopped product followed by boiling for 2hr to perform extraction. This operation is repeated twice, and the resultant filtrate is concentrated under reduced pressures at ≤50°C and the concentrate is spray-dried into a dried extract. This extract is dissolved in water followed by addition of n-butanol, and the resulting solution is thoroughly agitated and left at rest. The resultant aqueous layer separated is dispensed and freed from alcohol solubles, and the rest of the aqueous layer is spraydried into the alcohol solubles-free extract. The objective antipruritic has the following composition: (A) the above final extract: 0.01-5.0wt.%, (B) rice-based polysaccharides: 0.01-3.0wt.%, (C) carp oil: 0.005-3.0wt.%, and (D) 1-menthol: 0.005-2.0wt.%.
