To provide a method and a reagent useful for inducing apoptosis in a cell.

There is provided a nucleobase oligomer for modulating a function of a polynucleotide encoding an IAP (inhibitor of apoptosis), especially an oligonucleotide. These oligomers decrease the production amount of IAP and cause apoptosis of cells which normally express IAP. It is achieved by supplying the nucleobase oligomers specifically hybridizing with one or more polynucleotides encoding an IAP.
