Abstract:

To provide an antiseptic, which is a product delivered as an aqueous solution, having an increased and prolonged microbicidal activity for skin.

An antiseptic composition is provided, that includes: an antimicrobial composition selected from the group consisting of iodine (I2), iodophor, and a combination thereof, the antimicrobial composition being present in an amount sufficient to provide utilizable iodine concentration of at least about 0.25 wt.%; at least about 5 wt.% of a hydroxycarboxylic acid buffer; water; and optionally a durable film-forming polymer. A method of producing the antiseptic composition and a method of using the same are also provided.
