PURPOSE: An antistatic agent that contains a cationic surfactant with a specific chemical structure, thus giving a resin good antistatic effect without adverse effect on the intrinsic properties of the resin.

CONSTITUTION: The objective antistatic agent contains, an a major component, a compound of the formula [R1 is 8W22C (amid group-containing) alkyl or alkenyl; R2 is 1W18C alkyl, alkenyl; R3 is 1W4C alkyl; A is 2W3C oxyalkylene; m is 2W8, preferably 3W8; X is monovalent anion, polyvalent anion equivalent to monovalence]. When a adequate amount of the agent is combined with a synthetic resin, especically kneaded with polyolefinic resin, styrene resin or polyvinyl chloride resin on extrusion or injection, antistatic effect is given to the resin with good compatibility without adverse effect on the properties of the resin.
