A compound of formula I (R1 is H or methyl; R2 is O or imino) such as a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained inoculating a strain capable of producing BE-45985s in a nutrient source- containing medium and aerobically growing the strain to give a culture containing BE-45985s. Glucose, maltose, starch, etc., can be used as the nutrient source. Shaking culture and submerged aerated spinner culture are preferable as the culture method in the case of liquid culture. The culture temperature is 18-29°C, the pH of the medium is 4-8 and the culture time is 96-360 hours. The separation and purification is carried out by filtering the culture solution and extracting the prepared cell with an organic solvent such as methanol or acetone. The crude extract is subjected to water-ethyl acetate partition, ethyl acetate is distilled away and the extract is subjected to reversed phase column chromatography to give the, objective substance.
