To prepare the subject compound, represented by a specific formula, capable of manifesting strong suppressing effects on the growth of murine and human tumorous cells and useful as a therapeutic agent for cancer in the field of medicines.
This antitumor substance comprises a compound represented by the formula as an active ingredient. Furthermore, the compound is preferably prepared by culturing a microorganism having the ability to produce the compound represented by the formula or its variant strain (e.g. FERM P-15625) under culture conditions, e.g. 38°C and pH3-10.5 for about 240-288hr by the shaking culture and collecting the compound from the microbial cell thereof. The physicochemical properties of the compound are as follows: Property: a white amorphous solid or crystal ; molecular formula: C23H32O6; mass spectrometry: found: 405.2269, calculated: 405.2277; specific rotatory power: [α]20D=+62.2° (c 1.0, CHCl3); solubility: readily soluble in organic solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide and slightly soluble in water; division of acidic, neutral and basic substances: a neutral substance; color reaction: positive to the sulfuric reaction.
