PURPOSE: An antitumor substance obtained by extracting a culture mycelium of sclerotium of poria cocos (Fr.) wolf of the family polyporaceae with water, etc. to give an extract, followed by removing protein and/or saccharides from it.
CONSTITUTION: The inner tissue pieces of sclerotium of poria cocos (Fr.) wolf of the family polyporaceae is inoculated into an artificial medium, the hypha is cultivated purely, and the mycelium is taken out by filtration, etc. The mycelium is extracted with water or an alkaline aqueous solution, for example, at 5W120°C for 30 minutes to about 3 days. An organic solvent is added to the prepared extracted solution, and a fraction containing the desired substance is precipitated and separated to give a raw extract. This extract is subjected to a method, e.g., fractionation through chromatography, fractionating through deproteinizing agent, etc., so that protein and/or saccharides are removed, to give an antitumor agent.
