Abstract:

To provide an antitussive agent containing a rhizomatous extract of Cynanchi Atrai, and to provide a method for preparing the same.

A composition for relieving, preventing and/or treating tussis contains the rhizomatous extract of the Cynanchi Atrai in an enough amount as an active ingredient. The efficacious rhizomatous extract of the Cynanchi Atrai is prepared by extracting rhizome of the Cynanchi Atrai with water, ethanol, hexane, ethyl acetate or a mixture thereof. Further, the extract is prepared by processing a crude extract which is obtained ultrafiltration or reversed-phase chromatography.
