PURPOSE: To obtain an antiviral agent, containing a naphtho[1,8-cd]-1,2-dithiol derivative as an active ingredient and having slight toxicity or side effects.
CONSTITUTION: This antiviral agent contains a compound of the formula (R1 to R6 are each H, a lower alkyl, a lower alkenyl, an aryl, an aralkyl, nitro, cyano, an alkoxycarbonyl, an acyl, etc.) or its salt as an active ingredient. The compound has excellent antiviral actions and is effective against viral diseases represented by respiratory diseases such as upper respiratory infection, lower respiratory infection, bronchitis, bronchiolitis or croup in which a respiratory syncytial (RS) virus participates. The naphtho[1,8-cd]-1,2-dithiol derivative or its salt is formulated as a pharmaceutical preparation by adding an optional and required pharmaceutically permissible additive such as a carrier or an excipient thereto according to a conventional method. The daily dose for an adult is 10-1000mg, preferably 100-500mg.
